What is prayer? How do I pray?

Do you want to know the answers to these questions?

Then come and join our Pause for Prayer  group who explore these and other questions on prayer on an ongoing basis. We meet twice a month on a Thursday morning. Look at the Whats On page for further details.

We meet in our little St Andrew's chapel. The chapel has an informal and intimate atmosphere that enhances group discussion and silent prayer. Just drop in and join us.

"Learning about the power of prayer to heal was a turning point in my life. I have never looked back."

Do you find it difficult to pray?

If, like many people you do, then perhaps this inspiring short story about a man who felt he couln't pray will help you. Click here to read the story about "The empty chair"

Why we love our church

“It is a welcoming peaceful place where instructions for good living are given from the Bible.”

"I feel I have most benefited from 'Pause for Prayer' because it is special and gives opportunity to thank God for all he has done for me and allows me to pray for the needs of others."

Pause for

prayerPrayer at Bournemouth church

We regard prayer as the ‘Power House’ for all the activities of our church.

One specific time for our group prayer is our Pause for Prayer which is held twice a month on the first and fourth Thursday morning of each month at 10.00 a.m.  We meet in our St. Andrew’s Chapel for a time when we can do just that   - pause for prayer.

Why do we pray?

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

In our busy and sometimes hectic lives it is good to have a time and space for prayer. We use this prayer time to put things back into perspective, refresh our connection to God and strengthen our faith.

Lord Jesus gave us a clear and simple commandment that we should love one another as he loves us. So, we take Pause for Prayer, as an opportunity to pray together for those people in our community we know need God’s help. This doesn’t just mean those people known to us such as friends and relatives. We also pray for the wider community across the world. In this way, we try to follow Christ’s example of boundless compassion and pray for all those communities we know that need God’s help.

At the same time we use Pause for Prayer to collectively pray for the work of our church and our fellowship individually.

Our Minister Martin Ambler or other members of the church lead the prayers during Pause for Prayer.

Everyone is welcome to join us in this oasis of peace and tranquillity right at the heart of the town. Check for details on the "What's on" page

What Christ says about prayer.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Our Lord Jesus speaking in Luke Chapter 11 verses 9 - 10.

"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him".

What the Bible says about prayer

"You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." James Chapter 4 verses 2 - 4

"And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" James Chapter 5 verses 15 - 16
