CHURCH TAPESTRY
In October 1997, a discussion started after a Sunday
morning service between Margaret Norwood, the previous
minister's wife, Elise Story, an Elder of the church
and Marjorie Woodgate. The discussion resulted in
a project to design and produce a tapestry for the
Millennium year 2000.
From November 1997 until September 1998, Elise arranged
and hosted a series of meetings to put together the
idea and with the help of Pam Wilson, a well-known
local artist, they planned what was clearly going
to become a major piece of work. It was agreed that
the 'Tapestry 2000' as the project was named, should
consist of ten individually designed panels surrounding
a 'double' central panel. Each panel would depict
an element of the continuing story of God's relationship
with human kind, from the creation to the present
day and into the future. The theme was to be summed
up by the words in the central panel - 'Jesus Christ,
the Same Yesterday, Today and for Ever'.
By July 1998, the initial designs had been completed.
The Church Garden Party that month, featured a specially
set-up Millennium Craft stall and the overall design
was unveiled to an enthusiastic response. The stall
raised more than £150 towards the cost of materials
and due to further appeals for sponsors, ended the
year with a very generous £1000.
From then until December 1999, each panel became the
responsibility of a team leader, helped by her team
members, and work proceeded non stop until all the
panels were combined, framed and mounted in its chosen
place in the church by January 2000.
Today we are immensely proud of the 'Tapestry 2000
group' and marvel at the skills, inventiveness and
the feeling for shape and colour in undertaking a
task of this complexity. The message being that God
in Christ is present 'Yesterday, today and forever'.
We hope this will be an inspiration for us and generations
to come.
'A work of Faith and Labour of Love '

but God said...
I asked God to take away my pain:
but God said, No. It is not for me to take it away,
but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole:
but God said, No. His spirit is whole
his body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience:
but God said, No. Patience is a by-product of tribulations,
it isn't granted, it is learned.
I asked God to give me happiness:
but God said, No. I give you blessings,
happiness is up to you.
I asked God to make my spirit grow:
but God said, No. You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life,
but God said, No. I will give you life,
so that you may enjoy all things.
I asked God to help me love others as much as He loves
me.
but God said, Ahhh, finally you have the idea.
May God bless you that...
To the world you might be one person,
but to one person you might just be the world.
The Richmond
Ramblers

When summer arrives, our thoughts turn
away from the dark winter nights and constant rain,
to spending time outside relishing the glorious sunshine
and enjoying the beauty of nature. What better way
than to join a group of like-minded enthusiasts -
the Richmond Ramblers.
The group meet regularly and organize visits to local
attractions and areas of interest. We would very much
welcome anyone who wishes to join us
