Sometimes our friend Simon |
All little ones welcome, just come along!
We will be telling the ancient story of David the shepherd boy and Goliath the giant. Goliath was a champion warrior whose great size petrified a whole army. But never the less he was killed with one blow by David who was probably not much older than 12 years old and armed only with a sling. Come along and find out how.
As usual, after the story we will have prayers, songs and creative activities for the family to join in, followed by refreshments and Susan's delicious home made cakes.
In September's Early Birds, some of our children, Mums and Dads enacted Jesus's well-known story of the Good Samaritan complete with a gang of robbers, the poor travellor who got mugged and the good Samaritan who went to so much trouble to help a stranger in distress.
As usual accompanying the story we had prayers, a song or two from and Anne and Sue on the guitar and creative activities which this time involved making a friend!
Afterwards we all had a cup of coffee, tea or drinks and some of Sue's home made cakes.
Alison told the story of Helpful Harry who always liked to help others when they needed it. The story was accompanied by some clever cartoons drawn by Susan.
After we had the story came prayers, songs and the usual creative activities. This time the children painted up cardboard cut outs of themselves.

The art work was followed with some very welcome and delicious home made scones, clotted cream and jam washed down with cold drinks for the children and tea and coffee for the Mums and Dads.
Last month we were telling the story of Noah's ark and the great flood. Always a children's favourite, the story was accompanied with live acting and animations.

Afterwards there were prayers, songs and creative activities. These were finished off with delicious home made cakes, cold drinks for the children and tea and coffee for the Mums and Dads.
April's theme was about how God's creation and how he created everything including the earth, the stars, the sun and the moon and all the living things on our planet.
As usual the little ones enjoyed handcraft activities after the main story and prayers and Susan and helpers provided home made cakes and tea afterwards

“It is a friendly Christian community of people who show love and understanding of each others needs.”
“For the first time in my life I have a real sense of belonging.”

You know how babies and young children need constant attention. Well, we recognise that our normal Sunday service can be a trying time for both parents and youngsters. So, we cater for our young families on a more informal basis with our new style Early Bird Children's Service. (Click here to find us on the map)
We meet for an hour each first Sunday of the month at 10.00 am. We have been going for a year or two now and are delighted that new families are joining us every month. Our Minister Martin Ambler is always there to greet us with a warm friendly smile.
When the Early Birds team first got together, our aim was to bring more children to our Sunday services. And with renewed energy and enthusiasm, fresh ideas (and children) came our way!
We try to keep our Bible stories aimed at the little ones. But by bringing the tales alive with simple colourful puppets and artwork, the older ones and grown-ups enjoy the stories too.
Our activities are becoming very creative and interesting and with guitars playing and lots of musical instruments banging and a jingling, the lounge is alive with enjoyment.
“It gets better every month” comments Michelle a mother of three great boys, and “we are still talking about it during the day” says Gill a mother of little Ben and Emily. See more pictures in the Early Birds Gallery.
We like our Early Bird meetings to be lots of fun, very interesting, enjoyable and have a feeling of “That was good!”
But apart from having a good time, we all learn from the simple stories in the Bible such as Noah, Daniel and the lions' den, Moses, Jonah and the whale and of course Jesus and his disciples. These and many more stories teach our children things that most schools just don't!
The Bible teaches us all about:

And with these values our children will find
guidance, inner strength and confidence.
